There are several hydroelectric and irrigation dams in Kerala, which are mostly situated in the mountainous highlands. Authorities have developed some of these reservoirs into tourist centers with boating facilities and other attractions. Thekkady Periyar Dam Reservoir is the most popular among them. Others are Malampuzha, Thenmala, Neyyar, Thattekkadu, etc.

Cruising on the Periyar dam reservoir, watching herds of elephants, spotted deer, wild pig, bison and perhaps a glimpse of a tiger or a leopard, is an enthralling experience. Then it is possible to find peace and bliss and be at one with nature, in the vastness of the jungle.
